School Mentoring

Our school based program was launched in April 2012. It began as a joint initiative with the Palmerston North Police. 15 Police Youth Aid and Community Constables went into selected schools around Palmerston North and mentoring young people for 1 hour per week during school and term time.

This program was a huge success and as such it has transitioned from a joint initiative with the Police to a  program for community members. We currently have many community based people working in schools. This program can suit those with time constraints on the weekend but may have flexibility during the week.

Mentors go the school, remove the child from class and engage in many activities around the school:

  • Sports
  • Reading
  • Baking
  • Building
  • Working in the school garden
  • Assist with specialised school projects
  • Reading
  • Art

A one year commitment is required for all BBBS programmes.
